SUMMARY:In Conversation: 2025 WOPHA Research Fellows
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Green Space Miami to meet our 2025 WOPHA Research Fellows\, Shirine Saad and José Antonio Navarrete\, for a presentation of their ongoing research projects. Moderated by WOPHA Founder & Director\, Aldeide Delgado. \n  \nAbout the fellows \nShirine Saad is a Beirut-born journalist\, programmer and DJ focusing on culture and social change. Their fellowship supports their project “Shattering Form as Feminist Photographic Resistance\,” exploring photography of contemporary feminist and queer artists from the SWANA region. \nJosé Antonio Navarrete is a Cuban-born independent curator and researcher in visual arts and culture based in Miami\, Florida. Their fellowship supports his project “María Teresa de Rojas and Josefina Tarafa: the photographers of El Monte (1954)” shedding light on an unknown chapter in the history of modern Cuban and Caribbean women’s photography. \n  \nAbout the WOPHA Research Fellowship program \nThe WOPHA Research Fellowship annually supports two emerging or established authors in producing scholarly essays on women and non-binary voices in photography. The program fosters innovative and diverse approaches from critical and historical to speculative and autobiographical. The 2025 fellows were selected through an open call juried by Katy Hundertmark\, Managing Editor of Foam Magazine and curator at Foam. \nThe WOPHA Research Fellowship program is made possible through the support of the Pérez CreARTE Grant Program by The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation and the Green Family Foundation. Cultural partners are The Betsy Hotel and Green Space Miami. \n

SUMMARY:New Atlantis Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Continuing Green Space Miami’s focus on elevating and preserving Miami’s culture\, the 2025 open call invited artists to submit proposals that recognize and celebrate the communities that built this city. Communities prevailing\, singing\, dancing and speaking their language while development slowly paves over. A city subsiding under the weight of its own skyline\, eroded by geological and economic forces\, a mosaic melting into something new – a New Atlantis. \n  \nThis evening is a celebration with drinks\, music\, performances\, and light bites of our 2025 open call artists:\nPriscilla Aleman [@priscillaaleman.studio]\nJason Aponte [@japonteart]\nElisa Benedetti [@elisabenedettih]\nDiana Eusebio [@dianaeusebiostudio]\nHeaven Jones [@frankoceansmum]\nShayla Marshall [@shaylamonii]\nPhillip (Philovian) Norville [@philovian]\nCristina Maingrette [@nina_maingrette]\nAlan David Mejia [@alandavidart]\nLuna Palazzolo-Daboul [@lunapalazzolo]\nKandi Stirman [@kandilandia]\nKatie Stirman [@corabel]\nJulia Zurilla [@juliazurillaj]
