SUMMARY:Knit Does Not Equal Sweater Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Karelle Levy\n‘KNIT ≠ SWEATER’\n(Knit Does Not Equal Sweater) \n  \n“KNIT ≠ SWEATER” recognizes the challenges faced by fiber artists\, whose artistic medium is overlooked and undervalued since it is often grouped with craft. Because Levy is both a fiber artist and knitwear designer\, the show also honors the same stitches that connect her disciplines into a singular vision for an immersive\, interactive\, engaging experience. \n  \nKarelle Levy is a Paris-born\, Miami-based artist and knitwear designer whose work blurs the boundaries between traditional craft\, contemporary art\, and avant-garde fashion. She received a B.A. in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Recent exhibitions include “World Textile Art Biennial” (2022)\, “BluPrint” (2023)\, “Global South Movement” (2023) and “Hallelujah! Salon de Refuse Show” (2023). She has been named a 2022 Knight Arts Champion by the Knight Foundation\, received a Miami-Dade artist grant\, inclusion in the city of Miami Beach’s 2020 “No Vacancy” art competition as well as the 2005\, 2010 and 2022 award for “Best Women’s Wear Fashion Designer” by Miami New Times.
