SUMMARY:I Am Little Haiti: A Global Borderless Caribbean Homecoming

SUMMARY:Free Air – Eco-Art\, Ritual & Climate Action Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join queer artist and activist John DeFaro for an immersive eco-art experience inspired by his award-winning No Coffee Table sculptures\, currently on display at the venue. In a safe\, inclusive space\, transform incense sticks—symbols of pollution and harmful carcinogenic smoke—into bold 3D eco-art that radiates defiance and raw creativity. \nAir is free\, yet human neglect threatens its purity\, putting this fundamental right at risk. Why are we so captivated by fire\, smoke\, and ritual scent while overlooking their unseen harm? This workshop invites you to confront that cultural complacency and rethink practices that pollute our homes and environment. \nParticipants will paint the incense sticks using ‘tomorrow’s artist’ recycled paint\, rendering the objects obsolete as they are secured within and on salvaged Miami-Dade County pine bases crafted by Nick Gilmore—transforming the harmful into the enduring. \nEngage in meaningful discussions with special guests Niurca Marquez and Nick Gilmore as we reimagine healing rituals that uplift both personal and planetary well-being. Leave empowered with your own eco-artwork and a renewed commitment to environmental justice. \n\nJohn’s work is on view as part of the group show Unveiling Power: Examining Influence.

SUMMARY:Bringing The Outside In Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Bringing the Outside In explores how our homes become vessels for cultural memory and identity. Dahlia Dreszer constructs elaborate still-lifes within domestic spaces\, combining rescued flowers\, printed works from her earlier project Invisible Cities\, artifacts from her travels\, and inherited textiles that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior worlds. The work reflects Dreszer’s Latin American heritage and the immigrant experience of creating home between cultures. Dahlias and roses become symbols of resilience and growth\, carrying memories of generational connections while speaking to cycles of preservation and renewal. Through her practice of rescuing and preserving flowers – suspended and dried to extend their temporal existence – Dreszer examines the delicate balance between nature and artifice in our contemporary world. In collaboration with artificial intelligence\, she further explores this dialogue between preservation and evolution\, working with AI systems to interpret and extend these cultural expressions. This technological collaboration mirrors the immigrant experience of adaptation\, where meaning is both preserved and transformed through new forms of understanding. \n  \nBringing the Outside In introduces Dreszer’s emerging documentation of her homeland’s Kuna Yala women\, bringing awareness to these local artisans whose traditional mola textiles appear throughout the works. Returning to her Panamanian roots\, Dreszer creates a platform for these vital yet often overlooked cultural traditions\, highlighting the hands who make the craft. The exploration of heritage extends to Dreszer’s own multicultural identity\, as Jewish artifacts and family heirlooms interweave throughout the works\, suggesting that “home” is not a fixed place but a constant dialogue between memory\, identity\, and the spaces we inhabit. \n  \nLive plant installation by Tournage.\nhttps://dahliadreszer.com/

\n  \nJohn’s work was on view as part of the group show Unveiling Power: Examining Influence

SUMMARY:WOPHA x Sugarcane Magazine – Molasses: Kosisochukwu Nnebe
DESCRIPTION:“Molasses: Conversations on Art and Life” by Sugarcane Magazine is a podcast and intimate interview series that delves into the intersections of art\,  culture\, and everyday experiences within the global Black creative community. Produced by Sugarcane Magazine\, which is renowned for its focus on Black art and culture\, Molasses featured in-depth conversations with artists\, writers\, and cultural leaders. The discussions aimed to explore not just the craft and careers of these creatives but also their personal stories and the broader social\, political\, and cultural landscapes shaping their work. Kosisochukwu Nnebe’s work in the exhibition Atlas of Imagined Ecologies\, presented by WOPHA at Green Space Miami\, explored the relationship people of African descent have with nature through a focus on maroon histories and the migration of plant life. Using the banana leaf as both a geographic material and the temporary repository of archival images created through the process of chlorophyll printing\, Nnebe’s work engages with cycles of nature including the decay of the leaves themselves\, in a way that re-imagines history and hierarchy between humans and nature.
