DESCRIPTION:Primal Ensemble presents a live sound activation of Julia Zurilla’s immersive installation Tide of Memory at Green Space Miami. Through improvisation with percussion\, synthesizers\, and acoustic instruments\, the ensemble creates a sonic landscape that evokes meditative resonances\, like the sound of the sea or the wind\, dialoguing with the projected imagery and the material qualities of the space. \nDuring the performance\, the gallery transforms into an environment of listening and contemplation where image\, sound\, and presence intertwine in real time. Visitors are invited to inhabit the installation from within and are welcome to bring their own yoga mat to immerse themselves in the experience. \nJulia’s work is on view as part of the group show New Atlantis.

An original activation of The Crossings\, a choreographic work by Damaris Ferrer will follow\, bringing water\, memory and movement into conversation with a dynamic panel discussion to conclude the program. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an immersive four-hour\, specialized workshop on photographic handcoloring led by master artist Silvia Lizama. \n\n\n\n\n  \nLong before the advent of artificial intelligence\, Instagram filters\, Adobe Photoshop\, and color film\, colorists\, particularly women\, hand-painted black-and-white photographs. This practice responded to clients’ desires for realism while also serving as a powerful form of creative expression\, transforming photographs into singular objects through interpretation and touch. \n  \nBuilding on this tradition\, join us for a specialized workshop focused on photographic handcoloring\, led by master artist and educator Silvia Lizama\, who brings 48 years of dedicated experience to this technique. \n  \nThis four-hour workshop begins with a presentation exploring the history of handcoloring in photography\, situating the practice within its artistic and historical context and highlighting Lizama’s long-standing engagement with the medium. Participants will then receive a detailed demonstration of materials and techniques\, with a focus on using Marshall’s Photo Oils on silver gelatin fiber prints. \n  \nFollowing the demonstration\, participants will apply these techniques to their own black-and-white prints. Individual guidance and feedback will be provided throughout the session\, supporting both technical learning and creative exploration. \n  \nParticipants will leave with a finished hand-colored print and a deeper understanding of how color can transform the meaning and expression of photography. \nCome learn\, experiment\, and leave with a finished piece that reflects your own creative voice!

The event also includes a film screening curated by Diana Larrea\, featuring works by Peruvian women filmmakers. \n  \nAmong the featured films is Julia Se Revela\, a biographical documentary on Julia Chambi López\, regarded as the first Andean and Peruvian woman photographer by 2023 WOPHA Research Fellow\, Claudia Holgado López. Tracing photographs and personal objects\, the film reveals Julia—daughter\, sister\, artist\, photographer\, politician\, and devoted to Cusco—through the stories\, places\, and people that continue to remember her. \n  \nTaking place on April 25\, 2026\, the program coincides with the 492nd anniversary of the Spanish founding of Jauja\, historically recognized as the first capital of Peru. This temporal convergence deepens the event’s reflection on ceremony\, history\, and the enduring presence of Andean cultural memory.

DESCRIPTION:Thank a Tree is a creative eco-art workshop and discussion exploring observation\, creativity\, gratitude\, and our relationship with the living world. \n  \nLed by artist\, designer\, gardener\, and Green Religion founder John DeFaro\, alongside environmental artist\, science communicator\, and Living Studio founder Lauren Reilly\, this workshop brings the spirit of the canopy indoors through conversation\, collage\, and sculpture. The program begins with a brief presentation introducing Green Religion\, Living Studio\, the Thank a Tree project\, and the idea of Climate AWEARness\, followed by an open discussion where participants are invited to share observations\, questions\, memories\, and personal connections to trees and nature. \n  \nParticipants will then create small freestanding three-dimensional collage sculptures using printed imagery of trees and landscapes\, repurposed papers\, and an assortment of everyday found materials such as beads\, ribbon\, yarn\, string\, and other reclaimed elements. Through cutting\, layering\, bending\, folding\, and assembling\, flat materials become sculptural forms that stand on their own\, celebrating experimentation\, imagination\, and creative play. No artistic experience is necessary. Only curiosity and willingness to participate. \n  \nGuests are encouraged to explore COUNT IT ALL JOY!\, the current exhibition at Green Space Miami curated by Donnamarie Baptiste and Arsimmer McCoy. The exhibition invites its own moments of curiosity and discovery\, complementing the workshop’s spirit of observation\, conversation\, and creative participation.

SUMMARY:Words With Wings
DESCRIPTION:An artist chat\, presentation\, workshop and reception celebrating Words with Wings\, a collaborative spoken word poetry\, music and ambient noise album with over a dozen contributors. Led by Cassandra Mayer\, Words with Wings seeks to dive deeply into the cognitive dissonance of accepting moments of happiness in the twenty-first century. This project will incorporate spoken word poetry with accompanying music to articulate the challenges and triumphs of finding joy while sustaining hope when the world feels so often as though it’s crumbling\, so cruel and unkind.

SUMMARY:The Joy of Aztec Dance
DESCRIPTION:The Joy of Aztec Dance: A Celebration of Culture and Resilience is an interactive\, family-centered program celebrating the living traditions of Indigenous Aztec/Conchero dance through performance\, music\, storytelling\, and hands-on cultural experiences. Presented by Ameyal Mexican Cultural Academy and Tonalxochitl Comunidad de Danza Azteca de Concheros\, a community of indigenous families dedicated to practicing\, sharing and preserving the ancestral traditions of Mexico\, the program highlights the joy\, resilience\, and cultural pride passed from one generation to the next while inviting audiences to experience Indigenous traditions as a vibrant part of contemporary community life. \n  \nThe program begins with a traditional Aztec dance presentation\, followed by a short video featuring children from our community sharing how dance has strengthened their cultural identity\, built confidence\, and become an important part of their lives. Children attending the event will then participate in an interactive activity where they will learn simple dance movements and cultural traditions in a fun and welcoming environment. \n  \nThe celebration continues with additional dance performances\, audience participation\, and concludes with a presentation of Son Jarocho Afro-Mexican and Indigenous music\, songs\, and dance\, celebrating the cultural diversity of Mexico. \n  \nGuests will also explore a cultural exhibition featuring photographs of Aztec dancers from across the country\, child and adult regalia displayed on mannequins\, and an interactive table with traditional dance instruments and ceremonial items that children and families can safely touch and explore. \n  \nThrough performance\, education\, and participation\, the program fosters cultural appreciation\, strengthens intergenerational connections\, and celebrates the resilience of Indigenous traditions.
