SUMMARY:WOPHA x Sugarcane Magazine – Molasses: Kosisochukwu Nnebe
DESCRIPTION:“Molasses: Conversations on Art and Life” by Sugarcane Magazine is a podcast and intimate interview series that delves into the intersections of art\,  culture\, and everyday experiences within the global Black creative community. Produced by Sugarcane Magazine\, which is renowned for its focus on Black art and culture\, Molasses featured in-depth conversations with artists\, writers\, and cultural leaders. The discussions aimed to explore not just the craft and careers of these creatives but also their personal stories and the broader social\, political\, and cultural landscapes shaping their work. Kosisochukwu Nnebe’s work in the exhibition Atlas of Imagined Ecologies\, presented by WOPHA at Green Space Miami\, explored the relationship people of African descent have with nature through a focus on maroon histories and the migration of plant life. Using the banana leaf as both a geographic material and the temporary repository of archival images created through the process of chlorophyll printing\, Nnebe’s work engages with cycles of nature including the decay of the leaves themselves\, in a way that re-imagines history and hierarchy between humans and nature.
