SUMMARY:Artist as Catalyst
DESCRIPTION:The Artist as Catalyst Program is a four-day immersion produced by The Peace Studio\, recipients of a multi-year Green Family Foundation grant\, for emerging artists interested in making a positive social impact with their art. Located in the heart of Miami and embracing a specifically regional focus\, fifteen to twenty young Catalysts\, ages 18-26\, were selected to partake in studio classes and keynote conversations led by industry professionals\, collaborate with artists outside of their field in interactive workshops on the themes of Artistry\, Activism\, and Entrepreneurship\, and lead the conversation around the future of the arts in South Florida. \n  \nThe Artists Narrative & Storytelling \nLearn how artists build and express narratives around craft. \nPanel discussion with artists Najja Moon and Lauren Shapiro. \n  \nMapping Miami panel \nSandra Portal-Andreu\, a movement artist and former director of Project Art. \nKathryn Mikesell\, founder of Fountainhead Art Residency. \nAlejandro Rodriguez\, playwright and director\, and founder of AAC. \nThe panel was an opportunity to talk about the South Florida arts ecosystem and the available resources accessible to the Catalysts. \n  \nArtificial Intelligence and the Arts \nJessica Campbell\, an AI guru delivered a presentation on AI tools for creatives. \n  \nEmergency Preparedness \nClimate Crusader provided a presentation on ‘Emergency Preparedness for Artists’. Topics discussed were sea level projections\, hurricanes\, and how purpose can be transformed in times of emergency. \n  \nIntellectual Property Rights \nAllyn Ginns Ayers\, director of LegalARTLink and Dance Now! gave a presentation on contracts and IP basics for the artists. \n  \nArts and Longevity Panel. \nThe panel was comprised of: \nDiliana Alexander\, director of Filmgate Miami \nHouston Cypress\, poet\, artist & activist\, from the Otter Clan of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida \nOnajide Shabaka\, current Florida Prize finalist \nChire Regans aka VantaBlack\, community leader and social justice champion. \n  \nThe keynote speaker this year was Rosie Gordon-Wallace\, founder of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator (DVCAI)\, a pillar of the South Florida arts scene.
