Silenced: The Radio Murders

A listening party for the released audio documentary, Silenced: The Radio Murders, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Green Space Miami.
Transporting listeners back to 1990s Miami, the series re-examines the unsolved assassinations of three radio journalists in Little Haiti, linked to pro-democracy broadcasts at a time of extraordinary hope for the establishment of democracy in Haiti The murders were never solved, leaving a wound in the community that is still open to this day.
Dr. Rebecca Friedman, Professor of History at FIU and founding director of the FIU Public Humanities Lab, will host a panel of Carl Juste, award-winning photojournalist and activist, Oz Woloshyn, Kaleidoscope co-founder, and Ana Arana, the award-winning investigative journalist who first reported on the crimes for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in the 1990s.
The panel dove deep into the podcast’s characters and narratives, illuminating the context and possible motive for the murders, and discussed how the need for a free press is more important today than ever before.
