Black Women in Art: The Agency of Self-Preservation
Please join Green Space Miami (GSM) for our artist talk series, we’ll be discussing Black Women in Art: The Agency of Self-Preservation on Thursday, March 24th at 7 PM EST.
Featuring Rhea Leonard, Green Space Initiative winner and esteemed artist in conversation with Jacqui Colyer, Board Chair of The Historic Hampton House and historic preservationist, moderated by M.J. Fievre, internationally recognized author, educator, and public speaker. Rhea has shared that she felt emancipated through her work, while others have told us they felt “recognized” and “celebrated”. Join us in this pertinent conversation as we discuss how art has aided us in surpassing pain and memorializing the power, joy, and community building found in the work of Black women in America. We dive into the connections, beauty, and agency of powerhouse women, such as Nina Simone and Maya Angelou, who have influenced Rhea Leonard’s work.
